White Blood Cells
White blood cells, aka leukocytes(Loo-co-sites) are our own personal armies and a part of the immune system as well. They help fight off invading diseases and infections trying to harm the body. White blood cells also help remove dead cells from the body. When the white blood cells detect an infection they move to the site, mob around the 'enemy' as well as they can, and proceed to destroy the attackers..
Different white blood cells have different jobs. Some surround and eat bacteria to remove them from the blood, some release antibodies to help fight the infection(think about how police and the military use attack dogs to help take down a criminal). Some white blood cells can pass through capillary walls and help attack infections in the body tissue. |
