Procedures:
- Create a data table(see below) to record the color of the control and each patient’s urine sample before adding biuret and the color of each sample after adding biuret. Label it “Chemical Properties Analysis: Protein.”
- Place four test tubes in a test tube rack.
- Label one test tube “control” and the others “A,” “B,” and “C.”
- Use a clean transfer pipette for each urine sample and add 3 mL of the urine sample to the appropriate test tube.
- Use a clean transfer pipette to add 10 drops of biuret reagent to each test tube. Record the color of the urine sample in your data table.
- Place a stopper in each test tube and gently mix the solution.
- Record the color change in your data table. A change from blue to purple indicates the presence of protein
- Clean the work area with surface disinfectant. Remove goggles, apron, and gloves. Dispose of gloves according to teacher directions. Wash hands.
