Platelets are fragments of a large cell that stay in the bone marrow. Once they leave they circulate around in the blood stream(see fig. 1). Platelets help your body with helping clot blood and repairing injuries. So the next time you get a scrap or cut watch in amazement as the platelets quickly cluster around the wound. Once there they release proteins that help form a web that traps in blood cells. These blood cells help seal the wound and prevent further blood loss, aka form a scab.
