Bacteria
Bacteria are unicellular prokaryotic cells. They are the simplest forms of life on earth, and are considered the first cells that ever existed. They can come in a variety of shapes, some have cell walls or protective coatings called capsules. Many bacteria are not disease causing, but many do infect the living tissue of all organisms. Once inside an organism they reproduce asexually and form colonies of many bacterial cells. Together the colonies damage the surround tissue either by breaking down surrounding cells or producing toxins that destroy the surrounding tissues.
