Station 2 - White Blood Cells
There are five different types of white blood cells, each with specific function. Leukocytes, are larger than red blood cells, have a nucleus, and only live a short time. There are only 5,000-10,000 white blood cells in each mililiter(mL) of blood. The number of each of the various leukocytes in the blood have help doctors diagnose diseases. White blood cells also have the ability to leave the circulatory system in order to better defend the body and attack bacteria, parasites, viruses, or cancerous cells in other parts of the body.
