Microscope Safety
Always carry a microscope with two hands — one hand on the arm and one hand underneath the base. Hold it up so that it does not hit tables or chairs. Never swing the microscope.
Do not touch the lenses. If the lenses are dirty, ask for lens paper to clean the lenses. If using a microscope with a mirror, do not use direct sunlight as the light source because eye damage may result. If using a microscope with a light, turn off the light when not in use. Never touch an electrical outlet with wet hands. Be cautious when handling glass slides and cover slips. Never handle broken glass. Notify the teacher immediately if glass is broken. Always clean slides and microscope when finished. Store microscope set on the lowest objective with the nosepiece turned down to its lowest position (use the coarse adjustment knob). If using a lighted microscope, turn off the light before pulling out the plug. Microscope Safety Questions 1.
